Getting tattoos might not be such a big deal if we were young 20 something lovers who really don’t know the full meaning of love and commitment.
Instead my wife and I are old fogies, yes I said it (Honey forgive me) after 18 year of marriage 25 year together, 5 children, 4 grandchildren we really are old fogies.
We are professionals my wife is still running her own real estate business and I have just retired as a director of operations for a mid-sized construction firm.
Here is what happen last weekend.
On friday afternoon my wife, called to tell me that she needed me to pick her up from work, because she had a tremendously stressful day and she need to go out for a drink.
Corpus Christi is a really amazing potpourri of two cultures, we have learnt to work and live with the Mexicans and they have raised their families here, we all get along.
My wife’s favorite drinks are mojitos so we head down to the Green Lizard Bar which for those of you who are interested in finding the best bar atmosphere in Corpus Christi is next to the big USS lexington exhibit.
There are a number of bars, tourists shops, and a tattoo place (as I came to find out next day!).
We started out innocently enough with just a few cocktails, my wife was off loading her day and I being the good husband just nod when she wanted me to. Before I know it my wife spirit went from gloom to gay, we were there for about an hour by then. I too was at this time downing straight shoots of Crown Royal.
Their was a band playing and the lead singer knew us, because we’ve been there a few time, she came over and lead my wife onstage where they proceeded to sing everything from Felix Navidad to One Love.
By the time we stumbled out of the Green Lizard Bar it was 1AM, along the waters edge we held each other and kind of half kissed and half spoke romantic things to each other.
We had gone down about 1/2 mile down on the beach when we noticed the neon light on for the tattoo shop, and that’s when the idea hit us.
So we got tattoos, mine was her name in huge fonts across my back, and hers were a drawing of her man on her shoulder,( no more sleeveless formal wear).
It stung a little but it’s a momento we will never lose for the rest of our life.
